Why Real Wood??

Posted on: 08.10.2021

Economic Benefits

Some believe that buying unfinished or finished, real wood furniture is more expensive than the particle board / chipboard knock-offs. But when you do your homework, you will find you typically pay less.

Especially when you factor in replacement costs of the new items you have to purchase to replace the particle board furniture that breaks down and/or chips.

There are so many stores out there selling furniture that looks like real wood or has a couple pieces of lumber but are merely particle board with vinyl veneers manufactured to look like lumber. They charge just as much and often more than the real wood version. If you like the look of wood, go for the real thing and save a chunk of change.

Strength and Longevity

Why pay for furniture that ends up breaking down on you? Between sagging bookshelves, wobbly desks, and boards that disintegrate over time, it is a waste of money. Wood is not only strong and durable; it can be sanded and refinished if you want to change the look. Touch ups and repairs are also possible when accidents happen. Now, that is longevity!

Renewable Resource

A renewable resource is a natural resource which can replenish with the passage of time, either through biological reproduction or other naturally recurring processes. Building furniture out of lumber means you are using a renewable resource. Here at Generations, we offer furniture from manufactures that built with plantation-grown and Forest Steward Council certified lumber. FSC is a global not-for-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of responsible forest management worldwide.

Less Waste

Sadly, we have become a society that has accepted and perpetuated the disposable mentality. If it is quick, convenient, and cheap, we’ll take it – regardless of quality of materials and construction. The landfills are filled disposable furniture that gets tossed as soon as it breaks, which is typically not long after the purchase date. Real wood furniture is known to stand the test of time and eliminates unnecessary waste!

When you buy it right, you only have to buy it once. So, choose Real Wood and enjoy furniture that will last!
